Join us as we wander along the Verde River enjoying late-summer birds, riparian wildlife, and time out from the hustle of the day. We’ll slow down and use all our senses to get to know the plants, birds, and other wildlife that inhabit this green stretch of river.

Date: Thursday, September 10, 2026
Time: 8:00–11:00 AM
Location: Lower Tapco River Access Point

Meeting Point: Lower Tapco River Access Point parking area, near the porta potties.

Directions: Travel on Broadway Street out of Old Town Cottonwood and turn right onto Tuzigoot Road. After approximately 2 miles, turn left onto Sycamore Canyon Road, then turn left into the Lower Tapco River Access parking area. There is a $5 fee per car to park.

What to Bring: Water, snacks, binoculars, weather-appropriate clothing, a folding chair, art supplies, a journal, and a favorite nature poem to share.

About the Location: This section of the Verde River is shaded by a cottonwood and willow overstory and provides habitat for a variety of riparian birds. We hope to see Black Phoebe, Song Sparrow, Yellow Warbler, Blue Grosbeak, Verdin, Gila and Ladder-backed Woodpeckers, as well as possible migrants. We’ll also take time to notice and enjoy the plants and other animals that call this area home.
