Start your September birding with a morning walk through Kachina Wetlands, one of the Flagstaff area's local birding gems. Look and listen for water-loving species, migrating songbirds, and resident birds moving through the wetlands and surrounding habitat.

Date: Sunday, September 6, 2026
Time: 7:30–10:00 AM
Location: Kachina Wetlands

Meeting Point: Parking area at the end of Tovar Trail in Kachina Village.

Directions: From Flagstaff, drive south on I-17 to the Kachina Village exit. Turn right onto Tovar Trail and follow it to the end. The parking area will be on your right.

What to Bring: Binoculars, sturdy shoes, hat, water, snacks, and weather-appropriate clothing.

About the Location: Kachina Wetlands is a local wetland habitat surrounded by forest and meadow, providing an important stop for birds throughout the year. Plan on walking approximately two miles on a flat dirt road. A porta potty is available at the beginning and end of the walk. Little shade.
