Discover wintering birds and early spring arrivals along the Verde River while watching for courtship and breeding behaviors in this diverse habitat.

Date: Friday, February 20, 2026

Time: 8:30–11:00 AM

Meeting Point: Parking lot adjacent to the skate park off 10th Street

Directions: Meet at 8:30 AM, then carpool into Dead Horse Ranch State Park to share entrance fees ($20 per car of 2–4 people, $10 single-occupant vehicle). Bring your state park pass if you have one.


What to Bring:
Binoculars, water, snack, hat, sturdy shoes for rocky terrain.

About the Location:
A 2-mile loop through desert and riparian habitat along the Verde River—excellent for seasonal transitions.
