Build your Birding Skill Sanctuary Success Conservation Counts
Picture Canyon, Flagstaff February 16th, 8:30-11:00am
Let's take advantage of our mild winter and the diverse habitats of Picture Canyon to get to know our overwintering birds! This beginner to intermediate bird walk will explore a mix of riparian, pine forest, and grassland/farmland habitat over about a three mile loop. We will get the chance to see a diverse mix of bird species including numerous overwintering sparrows, ducks, woodpeckers, and finches, as well as our local resident birds. We'll also look for some local rarities overwintering along the Rio de Flag, including Wood Duck, Sora, Lincoln's Sparrow, and Marsh Wren.
We will be meeting at 8:30am on Sunday, February 16th near the trailhead sign in the Picture Canyon parking lot. This location will be easy walking generally with flat dirt trails and a few stretches of moderate incline. Be sure to bring sunscreen, walking shoes, a hat, binoculars, water, and wear warm layers. For any questions please reach out to Harry Jones at 317-523-7460.
