Walnut Canyon Lakes, Flagstaff
December 10th, 9-11:30am
Join us at Walnut Canyon Lakes, Flagstaff for a relaxing morning of birding! This is a great place to observe waterfowl up close and other wintering species. Now is a great time to scan geese for rarer possibilities like Snow Goose, Greater White-fronted Goose, and Cackling Goose, or enjoy other ducks including Northern Shoveler, Bufflehead, Common Goldeneye, and Common Merganser. Other possibilities are Bald Eagle, Lewis’s Woodpecker, Acorn Woodpecker, Townsend’s Solitaire, and American Robin.
We will meet at 9am on the north end of the ponds where parking is available. Take exit 201 off I-40 and drive south along N Country Club Dr. Turn left onto E Old Walnut Canyon Dr and pull off to the first parking available next to the ponds. This walk will be an easy, paved 1 mile loop. No bathrooms are provided, and bring sunscreen, walking shoes, a hat, binoculars, water, and wear warm layers. Weather will be cold!
