Build your Birding Skill Sanctuary Success Conservation Counts
Rockin’ River Ranch State Park – Friday, October 4th 8-11:00 AM. There is an option to meet at 8:00 am at the parking lot for the Copper Canyon Trailhead located here: Fs 136, Camp Verde, AZ 86322 and combine cars. This will allow those people who do not have an Arizona State Park pass to ride with others who do. Then we will carpool down Salt Mine Road to RRSP at 4513 S. Salt Mine Rd, Camp Verde, AZ 86322.
The park doesn't open until. Those who want to can meet at 9:00 am inside the park at Pasture Loop Trailhead parking area, right before the ranch house. Bird watching/hiking with Kay Hawklee, President of Northern Arizona Audubon Society. We will explore Arizona’s newest State Park and review the resident birds who will be staying for the winter. Hopefully, we'll see some migrants before they leave us for the winter. Then there is always the chance we will see a stand out migrant that chooses to overwinter. There is fun to be had in the quest to identify which bird stays and which bird goes. There are several vault toilet facilities. We'll bird the yard, mesquite bosque, and rich riparian areas. The variety of habitats is unique. This park is a great conservation corridor for birds and other wildlife. Watch the weather and dress accordingly. We might experience some mud if it's rained recently. Bring water, hat, snacks and binoculars. Questions and carpooling arrangements: email Kay Hawklee: khawklee@gmail.com or text 432-703-0007
