The Natural History of the Common Black Hawk: Fascinating facts and intriguing mysteries about an iconic Arizona bird.
Come hear Dr. Scott Johnson speak about central Arizona’s specialty bird—the Common Black Hawk. Retired ornithologist and NAAS member Scott Johnson recently completed extensive research on the biology of the Common Black Hawk for the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology's Birds of the World project, reviewing hundreds of scientific publications on the species going back to the 1800s. This work revealed that this bird is unique in some very interesting ways, especially as a raptor. He also discovered several very curious, unanswered questions about the species. Scott will discuss all this along with the basic natural history of one of Arizona’s most sought after and enjoyed feathered delights.
