Humphreys Peak Trailhead – Friday, June 9th – 7:30-9:30 am.
Meet at large parking lot on the left before entering the ski lodge area. There are Porta Potties there. Directions: From Flagstaff drive north on US 180 for 7 miles to FR 516, the Snowbowl Road. Drive 7.4 miles on this paved road to the lower parking lot of the Snowbowl facility. The trailhead is located at the north end of the parking lot. We’ll hike the field (trail below the chair lift) which has singing sparrows. We enter the pines and will only creep along for approximately one mile while listening for woodpeckers. Hoping for American Three-toed, Williamson’s Sapsuckers, Red Crossbills, and more high elevations species. If we don’t hear any of those, hopefully the Hermit Thrush will be “fluting” and the House Wren’s will be “gurgling.” Bring water and walking sticks if needed. Leader: Kay Hawklee.
