In search of Yellow-billed Cuckoo - Wednesday, June 7th – Clear Creek Campground – 7:00 to 9:00 am.
Meet at the dirt circle parking lot with Vault toilet at the far end of the campground. We’ll walk the sunny path out and the shady path back. Listening for the male Yellow-Billed Cuckoos to make their “distinctive series of hollow, wooden-sounding ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-kow-kow-kowlp-kowlp-kowlp-kowlp syllables. The whole series is quite slow and gets slower toward the end; calls can last up to about 8 seconds. Both members of nesting pairs give a metallic, rattling call, and a series of kow-kow-kow notes that sounds like a metal door knocker hitting a strike plate.” https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Yellow-billed_Cuckoo/sounds.
